NATIONAL EMERGENCY NUMBER ASSOCIATION ALABAMA CHAPTER AL NENA Minutes from the business meeting held on April 22, 1993 at the Morgan County Courthouse in Decatur, Alabama. An introduction was given by Bob Campbell-Chairman of the Morgan County E9-1-1 Board. John Ellison-President presented the meeting Agenda which was approved. New members and guests were introduced. Minutes from the January meeting were given by Bill Meadows 1ST Vice-President and approved. The Financial Report was given by Bill Meadows and approved. President John Ellison gave a special announcement that he had appointed Lee Helms to serve out the remaining term as 2ND Vice President (John also indicated that Lee would not be running in the fall for the position). COMMITTEE REPORTS Legislative Committee (Lee Helms, Art Faulkner, and Dick Pierce) Lee Helms reported that Governor Hunt had resigned. Lee reported that the Committee was having some trouble in the Senate. The 36 months period of time in the new that a District has to get on line was talked about. A motion was made from the floor that AL NENA take the stand that the clock started when the law was passed. Thanks to Lee, Art, and Dick for there continued hard work. Regional Conference John Ellison gave a report on the Regional Conference. He actively solicits help with the Conference. Training Larry Amerson sent some of the new training materials along with some check-out forms for all to see. Newsletter John needs some help with articles and news items to put in the newsletter. Cellular Bob Munsey of Bell South Mobility. Need to set up Standards for getting the cellular 9-1-1 call. Need to set up Standards for handling cellular 9-1-1 calls. OLD BUSINESS 1.) Dennis Stapleton is working on a Public Service Announcement concerning E9-1-1 that will be available to all members. 2. ) John asked if any member knew an Attorney that could handle incorporation for AL NENA at a low price or for free. 3.) John talked about the proposed Communications Weekend for operational personnel. NEW BUSINESS 1. ) Snow Storm-There were some comments from the group concerning the snow storm. Lee Helms of the State EMA talked about what happened at the state level and about resources. It was suggested that the Service Suppliers have service technicians pre-positioned. It was suggested that Districts have bad weather disaster plans ready. 2.) Phone Books-The standardization of emergency listings in the phone books throughout the state was discussed. Some members brought the first page in their local phone book for comparison. Service suppliers were asked to make an effort to standardize theses emergency listings. John discussed setting up a standing committee to handle this matter. 3.) Training for bomb threats was discussed. THERE BEING NO OTHER BUSINESS THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED. (The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for July 22, 1993 in St. Clair County.)
