Our web site is
primarily information for 9-1-1 professionals. Please feel free
to browse all areas, and the following will be of particular interest to
the general public. It is best to contact your local 9-1-1 District for
specific information.
- How is 9-1-1
organized?
In Alabama 9-1-1 is administered locally at the County or
Municipal level. Emergency Communications Districts (ECDs) are
organized under state law and operate Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
A PSAP is where 9-1-1 calls are answered, and may be located at a
Police Department, Sheriffs Office, Fire Department, or at a
consolidated PSAP that serves an entire County.
- Is 9-1-1
service available in all of Alabama?
All but a couple of counties are covered.

contact my local 9-1-1 Office for more information.

List of ECDs / 9-1-1 Districts
You can search for your County or City if they do not have a web
site listed above. This list has phone and email contacts for most
Districts.
Most areas are operated by County systems so start your
search with the County name.

- Does 9-1-1
work with my Cell Phone?
Yes, but you should provide your exact location for the best
possible response. We are working with the cell phone providers to implement the
FCC requirements for improving 9-1-1 service to cell phones. You can
read more at our wireless home page.
