Red E. Fox In
Action
Marsha Spurlin, Coordinator
Clay County 9-1-1
Since I have been
Coordinator at Clay County E-911, I have really felt a great need in our
community to educate the children on how to properly use the 911
system. We focus on Pre K-K and 1st - 2nd grade
children, but would like to expand that to older groups.
Our community does a
lot of outreach programs and events focused on women and children,
so I
wanted to not only use the 911 for Kids program for school, but also to
make appearances at these events so children would not be afraid to make
that call if necessary. Plus, they could educate their family members
by taking this knowledge home.
We have teamed up, at
times, with Smokey Bear to promote fire safety. Due to these
appearances, Red E. Fox and Smokey Bear have become a requested item at
certain events focused on safety issues. They hand out coloring books,
crayons, pencils, and even pose for pictures with the kids.
At the beginning of
the school year, we extend an invitation to the teachers to allow Red E.
Fox to make a presentation, especially when they have safety education
that week.
The picture shown is
from the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention Month event held
in Lineville Park. This event was sponsored by DHR and Safehouse in
April. Pictured are Dale, Jacob, Joey, and Mary Smith with Red E. Fox
and an unknown child. Mary Smith is the Director of Clay County Chamber
of Commerce, and her family was there supporting the event.
We really enjoy
presenting this program, and would like to thank all the centers that
have let us borrow Red E. Fox to spread the much needed education in our
community.
